The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) suggested several updates to Green Seal’s proposed “Healthy Green Schools and Colleges Standard for K-12 School Districts and Higher Education Institutions”.
- Applauds the clear messaging the Standard takes in regard to training, which is essential in protecting the health of workers and those that use an institution’s facilities.
- Urges the Standard to include effective active ingredients important for disinfection – including those quaternary ammonium compounds (quats) that are found safe for use by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as peroxyacetic acid (PAA) approved by EPA’s Safer Choice program– which are currently excluded from the Standard.
- Recommends including EPA’s Safer Choice program as an exemplary label to help identify products that meet high safety and sustainability standards.
- Recommends guidance on hand sanitizers in the Standard should make special note of FDA’s recalled hand sanitizing products in order to ensure that only approved and safe products are being utilized.
